“Franco Modigliani – Robert Solow – I.S.E.O. Temporary Chair in Economic Sciences”
19.04.2024
The I.S.E.O. Institute is pleased to announce that, thanks to a consolidated collaboration with the University of Brescia, the “Franco Modigliani – Robert Solow – I.S.E.O. Temporary Chair in Economic Sciences” has been established at the University of Brescia: last 14th December, the Academic Senate of the university approved the establishment of the chair entitled to the I.S.E.O. Institute, its founder Modigliani and past president Solow, who died at the end of 2023.
The chair provides “the annual assignment of the qualification of Franco Modigliani – Robert Solow – I.S.E.O. Professor to an economist awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics, or to an economist of international renown” as stated in the resolution of the Academic Senate. Thanks to the agreement with the I.S.E.O. Institute, therefore, in the faculty of the university of Brescia there will be every year – even if for a short time – a Nobel Prize for Economics to be a visiting professor (something never happened before in the University of Brescia): his lectures will be addressed to students enrolled in the master’s degree and phd.
The chair will be activated already in 2024, in June: the Nobel Prize selected by the two bodies will be announced shortly by the I.S.E.O. Institute and the University, which are currently defining the last details of the course.
“We are really proud – explains Riccardo Venchiarutti, who became president of the I.S.E.O. Institute after the death of Robert Solow – to be able to help offer students from Brescia the opportunity to lecture with the Nobel Prize winners for Economics: and we are even happier knowing that the newly established chair bears the name of our founder Franco Modigliani and our president Robert Solow, two economists but even before two extraordinary men to whom the world, academic and not only, owes a lot”.
