The 22nd edition of the I.S.E.O. Summer School in Economics took place from 13 to 20 June 2026 in the picturesque town of Iseo, on the shores of Lake Iseo, Italy.

One hundred participants from 41 countries and 73 universities gathered for an intensive week of lectures, discussions, networking opportunities, and cultural exchange.

The speaker lineup featured Nobel Laureates in Economics and internationally renowned scholars:

• James J. Heckman – Nobel Laureate in Economics 2000; Professor of Economics and Public Policy, University of Chicago;
• Michael Spence – Nobel Laureate in Economics 2001; Emeritus Professor, Stanford Business School; Senior Fellow, Hoover Institution; Professor of Economics, Stern School of Business at New York University; Honorary Chairman of the I.S.E.O. Institute;
• Valentina Bosetti – Professor of Environmental and Climate Change Economics, Bocconi University;
• Lisandra Flach – Professor of Economics at LMU Munich; Director of the ifo Center for International Economics;
• Kamiar Mohaddes – Professor of Economics & Policy, Cambridge Judge Business School; Director of climaTRACES Lab, University of Cambridge;
• Christopher Rauh – Professor of Economics and Data Science, University of Cambridge and Barcelona School of Economics;
• Robert F. Wescott – Former Economic Advisor to U.S. President Bill Clinton and former IMF official.

The 2026 edition, entitled The New Global Economic Order, explored some of the most pressing challenges facing the global economy during a period of profound transformation. Throughout the week, speakers analysed both risks and opportunities arising from geopolitical fragmentation, trade tensions, artificial intelligence, the green transition, labour market inequalities, demographic change, and persistent inflationary pressures.

The programme was conducted entirely in English and combined lectures with extensive Q&A sessions, encouraging direct interaction between participants and faculty members.

Following the success of previous editions, the Summer School also featured its annual Poster Session, where participants presented their research projects and discussed them with fellow students, professors, and distinguished speakers. The diversity of topics and backgrounds enriched the debate on contemporary economic issues and fostered valuable academic exchange.

Beyond the classroom, participants had the unique opportunity to interact informally with lecturers during breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and social activities, creating meaningful connections with both faculty and peers from around the world.

The programme also included a range of cultural and leisure activities. Participants explored the historic centre of Iseo, visited the island of Monte Isola, enjoyed a guided tour of Brescia and the archaeological site of the Capitolium, and took part in a kayak excursion on Lake Iseo. Many also enjoyed relaxing moments by the pool at the Iseolago Hotel.

The week included also the traditional Gala Dinner hosted at the prestigious Guido Berlucchi winery in Franciacorta. During the evening, participants received their I.S.E.O. Summer School diplomas, presented by Nobel Laureate James J. Heckman.
