L'INVASIONE SILENZIOSA - Viaggio nel mondo delle microplastiche, fuori e dentro di noi
Speakers
Stefania Federici
Università degli Studi di Brescia
From bottled water to our own organs, microplastics are now an increasingly studied subject of scientific research. But what do we really know about their effects, and which questions are still open?
On Thursday, 24 September, at Berlucchi winery in Corte Franca, Professor Stefania Federici, Associate Professor of Chemical Foundations of Technologies at the Università degli Studi di Brescia, took the audience on a journey into the world of microplastics with her lecture “Invasione silenziosa. Viaggio nel mondo delle microplastiche, fuori e dentro di noi”.
Drawing on scientific data, research findings, and examples from her work, Professor Federici explained how microplastics are studied and measured, which risks are currently supported by scientific evidence, and which aspects still require further investigation. The lecture offered an opportunity to look beyond alarming headlines and simplified narratives, placing scientific evidence and the questions that research is still working to answer at the centre of the discussion.
The lecture was part of the programme of the third edition of the NanoChemistry Camp, the international summer school organised by the I.S.E.O. Foundation, together with the Università degli Studi di Brescia and the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, bringing together young researchers and scientists from around the world in Iseo.
The evening concluded with a long round of applause and a lively exchange with the audience, reflecting the strong interest in a topic that continues to raise important questions for scientific research.
