INTRODUCTION

The I.S.E.O. Summer School in Economics is back with its 17th edition, planned from the 20th to the 25th June 2021 online.

The panel of the speakers includes Angus DEATON, Nobel Prize in Economics 2015, Michael KREMER, Nobel Prize in Economics 2019, Michael SPENCE, Nobel Prize in Economics 2001, Joseph STIGLITZ, Nobel Prize in Economics 2001, Riccardo VALENTINI, Nobel Prize for Peace 2007 with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (Ipcc) and further distinguished professors whose names will be announced later.

While we hope to welcome as many students as possible in person in the near future – in the past editions we have hosted more than 1.043 participants from 103 countries and 366 universities –  we know that this may not yet be an option for the upcoming summer, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. That is why, for the first time ever, we are offering an online Summer School: though at distance, we’ll offer a unique course, maintaining almost all the peculiarities that make our Summer School special. Multicultural background, informal atmosphere and interactive lectures.

CONTENTS AND PARTICIPANTS

The I.S.E.O. Summer School is reserved to graduate students (Masters and PhD) notably in Economics and in Finance, teaching assistants, researchers and young professionals.

The upcoming edition – entitled “The post pandemic world economy” –  will investigate some of the biggest issues affecting global economy, including the huge impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. Growth, sustainable development, welfare state, inequalities, labour market, emerging economies, and digital technology are just some of the topics which will be covered during the intensive one week course.

Conducted entirely in English, the I.S.E.O. Summer School  is based on a fair combination between lectures followed by Q&A sessions and social activities online.

Lectures will be broadcasted live: timetable will be set so to have classes (a couple per day) both in early and late afternoon Cet (Gmt+2).

Participants will also have on demand access to recorded Summer School lectures, so to review or watch them at their convenience.

“YOUR LECTURE”: PRESENT YOUR PAPER

The I.S.E.O. Institute will give a few participants the chance to present their paper in front of the whole group of students and, possibly, of some speakers. Papers will be discussed during  “Your Lecture” sessions.

ONLINE PARTICIPATION

The I.S.E.O. Institutes wish to give participants from all over the world the chance to get the latest research and insights from Nobel Laureates and experts in Economics, even though they can’t make it to travel to Iseo, Italy, due to the pandemic.

Online participants will follow the same academic program we usually offer to on-site participants and will have the same chance to participate, ask questions, join Q&A and attend “Your lecture” sessions.

We will also organize leisure time activities online, such as cooking classes, books presentations and short virtual tours.
