The 21st edition of the I.S.E.O. Summer School was held from June 14th to June 21st, 2025 in Iseo, a small city on the shores of Lake Iseo in Northern Italy. The event took place at the 4-star Iseolago Hotel.

A total of 57 participants from 26 countries and representing 40 universities across the globe were part of the Summer School program.

As per the lecturers, the 2025 session of the Summer School showcased a distinguished group of international economists, including one Nobel Laureate.

The theme for the 2025 edition was “Future Prospects for the Global Economy”. The event featured lectures by seven distinguished experts in international economics: Robert MERTON (Nobel Laureate in Economics 1997, professor at MIT, Emeritus professor at Harvard); Carolyn FISCHER (Economist, World Bank, professor of Environmental Economics, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam); Bernard HOEKMAN (professor and director of Global Economics, Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies, European University Institute in Florence); Christopher RAUH (professor of Economics & Data Science at Cambridge University, Affiliated Professor of the Barcelona School of Economics, and PI at ConflictForecast and EconAI); Christoph TREBESCH (professor of Macroeconomics, Kiel Institute for the World Economy and co-Founder of the Geopolitics and Economics Initiative); Elena VERDOLINI (professor of Political Economy, University of Brescia and senior scientist at the European Institute on Economics and the Environment); Robert WESCOTT (president of Keybridge Research and former economic advisor to US President Clinton at the White House).

Following the success it had on the last edition, the I.S.E.O. Summer School program included a poster session where participants could illustrate their findings. The diverse participation of young economists from various countries and different universities added depth to the discussions on the evolving landscape of international economics. The presence of Robert Merton and Robert Wescott, who wandered through the posters and took the time to listen to participants’ research, further enriched the event.

During Summer School, students had the chance to do much more than just learn and study. They had unique opportunities to engage with lecturers during breakfast, lunch, and dinner, forming lifelong connections with participants from all around the world.

During the week, participants had the opportunity to enjoy some free time: they relaxed by the pool at the Iseolago Hotel, wandered through the streets of Iseo city, and explored the picturesque Monte Isola island. Additionally, the Summer School program included exciting activities such as a kayak tour on Lake Iseo and a guided tour of Brescia’s city center and the archaeological site of the Capitolium. The highly anticipated gala dinner took place at the renowned Berlucchi winery, where participants were honored with their I.S.E.O. Summer School diplomas presented by Robert Merton and Robert Wescott.
